In addition to funerals and burials, we carry out a broad range of activities as regards the procedures and practices relating to the interment of the deceased.
These are:
- Offering funeral awareness courses either at the cemeteries or at various Masaajid throughout the year
- Providing educational workshops on end of life matters including funerals for staff at hospitals, care homes, hospices and those working for national bereavement organisations. This allows those who deal with Muslims who are dying or have died to understand the requirements of the faith in this regard
- Undertaking pastoral visits to hospitals and hospices and networking with Muslim chaplains working in hospitals and in the prison service, to serve the needs of the dying
- Hosting educational tours and visits at the cemeteries from mosques and schools
- Assisting other Muslim communities nationally in their dealings with local authorities, and in some cases dealing with local authorities directly, in meeting Muslim burial requirements
- Working closely with other organisations to provide bereavement support, in particular working with the Muslim Bereavement Support Service (www.mbss.org.uk)
- Participating and taking a lead role in the National Burial Council (www.nbc.org.uk) which covers the majority of burial and funeral service providers to the Muslim community across the UK
- Giving advice on Muslim burial matters to the wider community via our membership of the Institute of Cemetery & Crematorium Management (www.iccm-uk.com)
- Representing the Muslim community at the Burial Cremation Advisory Group at the Ministry of Justice.
